And then one day in the land surrounded by the sea
close to the water and hills by a sweet small bay,
on a late summer’s eve- it’s been a sunny marvellous day
Where once I found him standing beneathe a Pohutukawa tree
He turned, saw and smiled, one moment just for me.
So that man, by now known by his name
His smile, his soul and vivid jollity
His style, his whole alike nobody –
still curious, sweet and salted by the sea
Now standing eventually here in front of me
smilingly marvelling in the middle of this tree
High above and high alive – all this struggle and all this strife
all those nights awake, now my heart resembles an earthquake
soothingly trembles – in this moment and it’s so fleeting.
Nothing to capture in a bottle but all we can do is to breathe in.
